Remaking areas
With the major overhaul that Ephemerium: Unreality is having, it also made sense that I try to remake/update previous areas. In this log I'd like to show you the remade Main Hall which in the base version of the game used to serve as the central hub and at the end of the game led to the final boss area.
In the early game of Ephemerium, after unlocking the path to the 5 thrones area, you encountered Calli who would from then begin to chase you as a pursuer through the game. In Redux, this initial encounter will be upgraded to a boss fight to serve as the first boss of the game with Calli knocking Mousey through the portal and back into the main hall before going through herself and initiating the fight.
After the boss fight is finished, the player will then be able to access "Phynra's Library"; a new area that will serve as the main hub in the Redux version of the game. The entry point will replace the double door entry to the Flower Field that the players previously used to get IRyS's flower.
As you might have noticed, the remake not only uses different assets, but also makes heavy use of Unreal Engine 5's lighting technology, reflections and volumetric fog. We're still not using Lumen though, cause the last time we tried it in Froot's boss area, it caused a really bad performance drop so until Lumen's technology is better optimized, I don't think I'll use it in the game.
While you can't see the remade Main Hall in the recently released demo, you CAN see Phynra's Library, so do give it a try! And don't forget, you'll see something extra if you beat the hidden boss in the demo!If you encounter any bugs, have questions, feedback, suggestions or any thoughts you'd like to share, please let me know!
